Always blocked — on every level, always
Some things are never up for discussion. These are blocked on every Kolbo device, at either level, and no request opens them:
- Adult and sexually explicit content
- Violence and gore
- Hate content
- Gambling — including fantasy sports leagues
- Tools built to defeat filtering — VPN services, proxy sites, and the like
- Missionary content promoting other religions
- Dating sites
- Content promoting self-harm or eating disorders
- Drug promotion or sale
- Content whose purpose is mocking religious observance
Everything else is judged by conduct — not by name
News sites, community sites, stores — they're judged by how they behave, not by who runs them. A clean, text-focused news site loads. A gossip-driven one doesn't, whoever publishes it. A store with an owner-controlled catalog is judged like any other site; large open marketplaces where anyone can list anything are treated more cautiously, because they can never be fully clean. And a brand-new site nobody has ever seen? It's judged against this standard the moment your phone reaches it.
Images
Sites whose main draw is immodest imagery are blocked — on every level. Sites that are otherwise fine but carry some inappropriate images are where the three levels differ:
- On Secured: those sites are blocked.
- On Guarded: they open behind a warning first — and the images are blurred. The blur cannot be turned off. There is no unfiltered entry.
- On Protected: they start blocked — and parents can open a specific one with their password, and close it again anytime. Whatever a parent opens, the worst imagery stays covered; that band has no switch, at any level.
Video
YouTube and secular streaming services are blocked on every level. Kosher and Torah video sites work normally. And behind that warning door on Guarded, video does not play — a guarded page means guarded, including what moves.
Search and everyday tools
On Guarded, general search works with safe-search locked on and images filtered on results pages. On Secured, general search is blocked. Clean games are available on Guarded and blocked on Secured. Open-ended AI chat tools are blocked on every level — they can generate anything, so they're treated like what they can produce.
The three levels
One written standard, three worlds to hold it in.Secured — the highest: borderline sites are blocked outright.Guarded — the everyday: borderline sites open with their images filtered.Protected — the bare minimum: the worst of the internet is gone, permanently. Choosing a world is part of signing up, and we recommend Secured. Whichever you choose, the ceiling above never opens.
The switches — optional, one-way
Families that want to go further can turn off entire areas: news, shopping, video, games, or the device's app store. Every switch works one direction only — stricter. No switch ever adds permission.
When we're not sure
Doubt never defaults open. A site we can't judge confidently is blocked and flagged for human review. And every family has the right to ask about any decision — we answer, and where an allowance is granted it always arrives filtered, never wide open.
