iPhone Filtering for the Crown Heights Community
Crown Heights is a neighborhood where community and institution are deeply intertwined. Families here are connected to mosdos, to 770, to the network of schools and shuls along Kingston and Eastern Parkway. The community's approach to technology reflects its values: smartphones are tools that need boundaries, and those boundaries need to be set by professionals who understand what "filtered" actually means.
KolBo Filter is located in Brooklyn, making our walk-in service easily accessible to Crown Heights residents. Walk in for a $49 setup, or book a house call for $99 if you'd rather have us come to you. Either way, your iPhone is permanently filtered in about 15 minutes.
A Diverse Community, Individual Configurations
Crown Heights' frum community includes families with deep institutional roots, young couples establishing households, baalei teshuvah navigating technology decisions for the first time, and shluchim who spend time online for outreach purposes. Each has a fundamentally different relationship with their iPhone, and each needs a different filtering configuration.
A family with teenage children needs strict filtering — calls, texts, WhatsApp, Waze, and nothing else. A shliach who manages social media for a Chabad house needs access to specific platforms for posting but not for browsing. A working professional needs email and industry-specific apps. KolBo Filter handles all of these because every phone gets its own custom allowlist built around the individual's actual needs. We don't apply a generic template. We build around your life.
Walk-In Convenience
Crown Heights residents can reach our Brooklyn walk-in location quickly. There's no need to mail your phone to a remote service, wait for a shipping label, or spend a week without your device. Walk in with your iPhone, tell us what you need, and walk out 15 minutes later with a permanently filtered device. Your photos, contacts, WhatsApp conversations, and approved apps are completely untouched.
The walk-in setup costs $49 — the most affordable professional filtering setup available. For families filtering multiple phones, we handle all of them in a single visit, each with its own configuration.
How the Technology Works
KolBo Filter uses Apple Supervised Mode — the device management framework that Apple built for schools, businesses, and institutions. When we supervise your iPhone, we install a management profile that controls app installation, browser settings, VPN capability, and profile management. The profile is locked with a PIN held by KolBo Filter. The phone user cannot modify or remove any restriction.
This is fundamentally different from Screen Time or app-based filters. Screen Time is a consumer feature designed to be easily adjusted by the device owner — which means it's easily defeated. App-based filters can be deleted. KolBo Filter's supervised mode profile cannot be removed without physical access to a computer with our credentials. That's the standard of permanence that Crown Heights families expect.
Community Standards, Professional Execution
Crown Heights has clear community standards around technology, and families benefit from a filtering service that meets those standards with professional-grade technology. KolBo Filter doesn't just block a few categories — we lock down the entire device at the operating system level and give you back only what you need. The result is a phone that serves your family and your community without compromise.
Every subscription includes full access to the KolBo app — 695,000+ Torah shiurim, Zmanim, Tefila Companion, Digital Library, Minyan Finder, and more.
